Descritpion of the Demidovskiy field
At present the Demidovskiy granite open-cast – is a technically equipped and modernized enterprise. The rock-crushing plant has been completely reconstructed and a rotary crusher has been installed, which allows making high-quality pebbles.
Monthly average production volume – up to 30 000 tons.
In 2003 the Demidovskiy open-cast celebrated its golden anniversary – 50 years.
In 1952 development of a granite field was started in the outskirts of Mogilevka village (Zhmerinskiy district, Vinnitskiy region). Soon intensive production has exhausted the field and the nature has filled this niche with a beautiful blue lake. Now this territory is a recreation centre for local people.
In 60’s development of a neighboring field was started, not far from Demidovka village (Zhmerinskiy district, Vinnitskiy region). In 1985 a follow-up exploration of the Demidovskiy field was held and in 1986, by the order of Ukragropromstroy URSR, construction of Demidovskiy mill of construction materials with annual production capacity of 800 thousand cubic meters of crushed stone (macadam), was started. The construction had been performed for 25%, when financing decreased and then cut off.
The history of “Demidovskiy” open-cast is a reflection of development sinuosity of domestic industry. As early as in 60’s – 70’s experts explorers were assuring that at efficient diggings of the open-cast, its granite deposits would be sufficient for more than 200 years – stone deposits comprised more than 50 million of cubic meters, but after the collapse of the Soviet economy in the mid-90’s the production at the state level was stopped. Even reorganization into a closed joint-stock company didn’t help, and dissociated “Granitnyi quarry” Ltd, was fruitlessly trying to set work. It seemed that the construction activation and therefore increased demand for macadam should have encouraged the enterprise’s revival, but it turned the other way around. 14 km of approach railroads were dismantled and sold, a part of motor transport was sold, the remaining equipment hasn’t been maintained or repaired during this time and thereafter got out of order. The main thing – experts, who used to work for many years in the enterprise, left for search of better lives.
It was obvious for new owners that only significant financial investment and wise management could bring the open-cast back to life.
The new team has absolutely clear vision of tasks and, subsequently, the enterprise capacity: in the first stage – to produce 350 thousand tons of small fractions of crushed-stone per year. It is competitive production – small macadam with improved grain form (cubical), meeting domestic and European standards.
For today we have reconstructed the rock-crushing plant, namely: we have completely repaired all elements of the production line, have changed and made new conveyor lines, have set new screens and have completely reconstructed existing crushers, also we have installed a rotary crusher, which will assure production of small macadam fractions with improved form with minimal flakiness. We have restored motor transport shop and purchased more cars for transporting production, front loaders, passenger buses for transporting employees, we have organized drilling works in the open-cast and completed digger fleet, have repaired existing buildings and constructions. Also we have organized loading railroad part for delivering production by railroad to the station Gnivan YuZZhD, allowing loading up to 30 carriages per day and many other things.
Our primary tasks in our strategic development plans are:
Achieving annual production volume of 1 mln m.cub. of non-metallic materials with organizing subsequent export and delivery, training new, professional personnel, introduction of innovative technologies.
We are sure – Demidovskiy open-cast will become a modern and highly efficient enterprise.
